The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is a standardized test of English language proficiency that is specifically designed for Canadian immigration and professional recognition. It is accepted by the Government of Canada for immigration and citizenship applications, as well as by various professional organizations and employers across Canada.
CELPIP test is divided into two versions:
- CELPIP-General: This version is intended for those who want to demonstrate their ability to use English for general everyday tasks, such as communicating with friends and family, reading and writing emails, and following written and spoken instructions.
- CELPIP-General LS: This version is intended for those who want to demonstrate their ability to use English for general everyday tasks, as well as for specific language skills required in the workplace, such as giving presentations, participating in meetings and conducting business in English.
Both versions of CELPIP test are divided into four sections:
- Listening: This section measures the ability to understand spoken English in a variety of contexts.
- Reading: This section measures the ability to understand written English in a variety of contexts.
- Writing: This section measures the ability to write in English in a variety of formats and for different purposes.
- Speaking: This section measures the ability to speak in English in a face-to-face interview with an examiner.

The test is scored on a scale of 0-12, with 12 being the highest level of proficiency. The scores are reported in whole and half bands, and each band corresponds to a level of proficiency. The test results are valid for two years.
CELPIP test is accepted as evidence of English language proficiency by the Government of Canada for immigration and citizenship applications, as well as by various professional organizations and employers across Canada.
